2020 Feb 1 to 29 Trapped in the Grey

MICA Gallery is pleased to feature Michigan artists Jessica Kovan and K.W. Bell for our February exhibition! Don’t miss the Artist Reception on Friday, Feb. 7th from 5-7pm, featuring performers from Karyn’s Dance Place.

“We are living in a time of opposites. We are confronted with a new age of physical limits and boundless human ingenuity. Our news covers items of hopefulness and helplessness. Recognizing all things are comprised of light and dark, brightness and shadows, certainty and uncertainty, we hold these opposites simultaneously. We must think for ourselves, hold what is true, and grow from it.

The title of the exhibit, Trapped In The Grey, is a dual reference to the colors and textures of the paintings and sculptures, as well as the reflections viewers will see while observing the artwork. The artists have captured the desire to break out of self imposed limitations, push beyond what is known while searching for clearer understandings, and testing the tension between feeling part of a whole and experiencing insignificance. This exhibit will be enriched by writings throughout challenging the viewer to contemplate the message of the exhibit as a whole. The goal of “Trapped in the Grey” is for the viewer to reflect on how we are shaped by, trapped in, and grow from both the light and the dark and the complexity of the time period we are living in.”
